You don’t need membership to attend regular club nights – they’re free and open to all, with no limits on attendance.
But joining the club as a member helps support our work and gives you access to exclusive events and matches.
Membership benefits
Why join? Most importantly, members help us bring chess to more of our local community. Keep an eye on our events to see what what’s planned.
But members also get individual benefits. Join for 2026 and you’ll:
be able to play in our internal club competitions and rated games,
get priority access to special events like grandmaster simultaneous displays, lessons, and study sessions,
be eligible to play competitive matches for Walthamstow, and
have a say, and a vote, in how the club is run.
Price and affordability
Our recommended subscription is £60 per year. However, we want our club to be accessible to all, whatever their circumstances. So if you can’t chip in that much – or even if you want to contribute more – you can name your own price. No questions asked.
Membership lasts until 31 December each year. If you’re joining mid-year, please amend the subscription as you see fit.
Where does my money go?
Subscriptions go directly to the club. We’ll use them for one purpose only: to bring chess to our local community. Our constitution ensures that Walthamstow Chess Club remains not-for-profit. Members review our finances at every AGM.
Please note that membership payments aren’t refundable.
